Golden Cats These special cats have a golden luster that is yet another aspect of the Raku firing process. After the first firing, each cat is glazed with a clear glaze and fired in the Raku kiln. Once the glaze matures, about 1800 degrees, the kiln is opened and the cat is removed while still hot. Then it is sprayed with a special chemical, which is absorbed into the glaze creating an ethereal golden luster unique to each Cat.
